To search our collection of books, click ‘BOOK CATALOGUE’ on the Homepage.

You can search the catalogue without a login. However items may only be requested by library members. Membership is open to staff of Saint John of God Services in Ireland only. Click HERE for membership form.

If you are already a member you do not need to login to search, however if you want to request any items you will need to login.

Note the links on the right side of the results page may direct you to the full text.

If you’ve tried all the above and still can’t find the article then CONTACT us with the details of the article. We can request the article from another library or a document supply company. There may be a charge for this service. If the article is for use in your day to day work the library will bear the cost, however if you want this article for personal reasons you will be asked to pay. If you receive an Educational Allowance you may be asked to pay.

The minimum fee is usually €10 per article and the maximum will be around €30 depending on the publisher’s charge. To comply with copyright conditions you may be requested to complete an Article Request Form.

OTHER DATABASES TO SEARCH:

‘PubMed‘ on the Homepage. PubMed is the biggest medical database in the world and is free to access. It comprises all the literature available in Medline, but also the latest provided citations not yet indexed in Medline. Most articles on PubMed are available ‘Abstract-only’.  If available free full-text it will be clearly stated.

‘Cochrane Library‘ on the Homepage.  Particularly useful for systematic reviews

The library sends out alerts when new journal articles are available online. You can receive an email that includes links directly to the full text of the article. Send an email to Angela at justin.smyth@sjog.ie.  You will need to include
  1. The centre you work in
  2. Your area of interest e.g. Nursing, Adult Mental Health, Intellectual Disability etc.
If you need to access the journals and databases from home then we can issue you an Athens Username and Password.  This will be valid for 6 months and can be renewed if necessary. We have a limited number of Athens Passwords available.  To request access via Athens please email either justin.smyth@sjog.ie and include the following information:
  1. Your name and phone number
  2. The name and address of the service you work in
  3. Your SJOG email plus your home email address
